The sunny Ft. Lauderdale area offers countless opportunities for making memories. We've compiled a guidebook of some of our favorite ways to enjoy not only the City of Oakland Park but also the greater Ft. Lauderdale communities we are a part of. Whenever you're not resting at the Tropical Oasis Villas, here's a few recommendations for experiencing the best of our area.
Activities
Water Taxi:
We LOVE the Water Taxi. It’s a great way to explore the best of Ft. Lauderdale at your own leisure on the water. If you check out our “Perfect Day Trip” Guidebook, you’ll see all of our favorite stops, as well as tips and tricks for enjoying it like a local would.
Buy tickets, track the water taxis, and get further information via this link.
The Nearest Beach:
The nearest beach is 2.5 miles away from the Tropical Oasis Villas. This particular stretch of beach is pretty serene because it's a hidden gem, used by mostly locals and not many tourists.
There is local public parking that is steps away from this beach at 3448 E Oakland Park Blvd Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33308.
Hugh Taylor Birch State Park
The Hugh Taylor Birch State Park is our favorite local park. It's 4.4 miles away, but super worth it.
They have gorgeous nature trails, kayak and bike rentals, it's across the street from the iconic Las Olas beach (parking your car in the park is a local cheat code for cheaper parking), and it's near other attractions like restaurants, as well as the Bonnet House Museum and Gardens among other things. Plus, it’s one of our favorite stops on the Water Taxi.
Located at 3109 E Sunrise Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33304.
Restaurants and Breweries:
We are 1 block away from downtown Oakland Park which has a nice handful of quality boutique and mom and pop restaurants as well as local craft breweries. Our favorite restaurants in Downtown Oakland Park are:
Nour Thai
Bulegreen Café Yard (Breakfast/ Brunch)
Funky Buddha for beer
Brewlihan for yummy ales (Small craft brewery that's only open Friday- Sunday)
In addition, we’re close to other larger hot spots with an array of food and activity options like: Las Olas Boulevard and Lauderdale-by-the sea. We’ll be happy to share more specific recommendations based on your interests and preferences for those areas as well.
Museums:
Bonnet House Museum & Gardens- A quirky historic estate near Hugh Taylor Birch State Park.
NSU Art Museum- Continuously new & interesting exhibits
Adventurous Activities:
Xtreme Action Park has a variety of fun activities for all fitness levels, including: go-karts, bowling lanes, indoor rope courses, escape rooms, arcades, mini golf, trampoline park, laser tag and more.
projectROCK is a nearby indoor rock-climbing facility
Cities & Neighborhoods Worth Exploring within the Greater Fort Lauderdale Area:
Downtown Oakland Park (The Tropical Oasis is proud to call Downtown Oakland Park our home. This is a local gem with mom and pop restaurants and a cool local brewery scene developing)
Las Olas Boulevard (high end vibe as it’s nestled in a historic posh neighborhood)
Lauderdale-by-the-sea (a quirky seaside strip).
Wilton Manors (A beautiful gayborhood where all are loved and accepted)
Pompano Beach also known as "The Pomp"
All 5 locations have tons of restaurants, art galleries, shopping and entertainment.
We hope this helps to sweeten your experience in Ft. Lauderdale.
Cheers to making sweet memories!
Best Regards,
Reese + Kay
